| Embellishing |
| Please resist the urge to embellish your titles. It isn't necessary. Let your writing catch people's attention, rather than relying on 'beautifying' your titles by putting them in bold or putting "~" around them and such. It just gives me more work to do. Thank you, and as always, keep writing! ^.^ |

| Hello everyone! As many of you probably know, my name is Julie and I first appeared on Marauders Map as a beta. Guess what! I still function as one, so feel free to email a story to me at any time. It’s a free editor! It can’t hurt you, only help. Sometimes one needs a fresh eye to read a story because the author themselves know how it’s supposed to go, and their eyes may play a few tricks on them. Send your stories to me and I will look them over, fix some mistakes and send it back to you. You can use my corrections or not, it’s up to you! I’m a nice girl, really...don’t be afraid!...well, be a little afraid, but not too much. ^^;; I’m also there if you have some sort of block and need someone to help hash out details or, well, anything! |

| As you may have seen on the main site, we're looking for people to submit editorials on anything HP related. If you have a theory on Horcruxes, Snape, Draco, the HP stars, etc. please write something up! With all you great writers on here, we'd love to have a bunch entries from you guys. | The Reality of Reviews--ALL AUTHORS MUST READ THIS! |
| I would like all of you to read this. This is a fanfiction site where people can post their work and/or read and review other people's pieces. If you post your stuff, you are setting it out to be criticized, but can expect it to be done constructively. If people do it correctly, they'll suggest things that will make your story better--this is not called flaming. Flaming, by definition, means that someone calls you names, swears, comments rudely and not constructively, and other similar things. If you do not want to hear honest opinions about your work or don't want to improve your work, this is not the place to post it. Do not complain about people's reviews, unless they are truly flames. We're trying to create a quality archive with intelligent authors that truly care about progressing and improving. Brendan's Edit: We do understand that it can be discouraging to receive a not-so-positive review, however, the hope of our staff, and I would hope of the person who reviewed your story for you is to make you a better writer. Our staff takes a good amount of time to review your work. Often, work posted here will receive at least one review because our staff makes the effort to review actively, so please try to appreciate the time put in by the volunteers who have put this site up. As always, thanks for using Marauders' Map. We are improving rapidly thanks to you, and because we rely so much on our fans, we want you to be pleased with the site. Any issues can be reported via email to Julie. She'll be more than happy to assist you! :-D |

| Original versus HP FF |
| As you will notice, we have two categories of fanfiction--original and HP. I'd like to clarify what these mean. If you are submitting anything that is HP related (meaning it involves the wizarding world, marauder era, or current HP era) please post it in the HP ff section. Even if involves original wizarding characters, it should be put under the HP section. The original section is for original work. This means, poems, stories, and anything that you yourself came up with. This is for your own original plots and characters that have nothing to do with the world of Harry Potter. Please try and keep this distinction in mind when you post. |

| Suggestions |
| I'd like to suggest you do two things. 1. Read and review other people's stories. If you want people to review yours the best way is to review other's! Additionally, reading other people's work will help you in your own writing. 2. Spellcheck every story you submit. I know that's a given, but just thought I'd add it! Don't forget, we're going to be featuring a new story every week or so! So get your friends on here too, review other people's stories, and keep writing your own! |
